In the South American region, Colombia also officially won the ticket after gaining just 1 more point from the 3-3 draw with Chile.

Meanwhile, despite an impressive 4-1 victory over Montenegro, England still have to wait until the final round. The Three Lions are currently leading Group H with 19 points, one point ahead of Ukraine. In the final match in the middle of next week, if they beat Poland, England will secure a ticket to the 2014 World Cup regardless of Ukraine's results.

In Group F, despite their best efforts, the unfortunate 1-1 draw against Israel has left the Portuguese team facing a huge risk of having to compete for a play-off ticket to Brazil next year.

Coach Paulo Bento's team is currently ranked 2nd in Group F with 18 points, 3 points behind the leading Russian team. Not only that, after the 4-0 win over Luxembourg, Russia has a superior goal difference compared to Portugal (15-7).

In Group I, Spain consolidated their position at the top of the group with a 2-1 home win over Belarus. After this penultimate match, Spain are still unbeaten, with 17 points, 3 more than France, and also have a better goal difference (9 vs 6).

The team that made the biggest impression in last night's series was the Netherlands with an 8-1 victory over Hungary. Striker Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick.

* In the penultimate match of the South American region, striker Radamel Falcao and his teammates had a spectacular comeback. Although Chile led 0-3, Colombia still played with great determination to draw 3-3 and win a ticket to the 2014 World Cup.

With this draw, Colombia has secured a ticket to the 2014 World Cup with 27 points after 15 rounds. So far, 2/4 official tickets from the South American region have been determined, belonging to Argentina and Colombia.

The biggest disappointment was Uruguay, who lost 0-1 at home to direct rivals Ecuador. This defeat saw Uruguay drop to fifth place while Ecuador climbed to fourth.

Chile and Ecuador are currently ranked third and fourth with 25 points each. In the final match, Chile will face Ecuador and only need a draw to get the ticket.

Result:

Ecuador - Uruguay 1-0

Colombia - Chile 3-3
