Germany, Portugal enter quarter-finals, Netherlands lose all
The "death" Group B of EURO 2012 ended with Germany's 2-1 victories over Denmark and Portugal's 2-1 victories over the Netherlands. This result helped Germany and Portugal advance to the quarter-finals, while the Netherlands returned home in shame after losing all three matches.
This is the first time since 1980 that the Netherlands have been eliminated in the group stage and that comes just two years after they were crowned world runners-up.
In the quarter-finals, as the group winners with a maximum of nine points, Germany will face Greece, a match that is closely watched both politically and economically, while Portugal will face the Czech Republic, the group winners of Group A.
In the final round, all attention is focused on world runner-up Netherlands, because they need to beat Portugal by at least 2 goals, while also hoping Germany will beat Denmark to squeeze through the narrow door.
That hope was rekindled when Rafael van der Vaart gave the Orange army the lead in the 11th minute with a beautiful long-range shot.
However, the Netherlands could not maintain that advantage for too long because in the 28th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo quenched his thirst by leveling the score at 1-1.
That goal helped Ronaldo to relieve all the burden and lead the Portuguese attack to play very well, and then in the 74th minute, the Real Madrid striker completed his double, sealing the victory for his team. In fact, if he had taken advantage of the opportunities, Ronaldo could have left the field with a hat-trick and Portugal could have won with 4-5 goals!
However, the 2-1 victory was enough for Ronaldo and his teammates to decide their own fate.

Meanwhile, in the same match, Denmark also rekindled hope when Michael Krohn-Dehli leveled the score at 1-1 with a powerful header just 5 minutes after Podolski opened the scoring for Germany in the 19th minute.
In the minutes that followed, it was Denmark who took the lead as they created a series of scoring opportunities. However, Morten Olsen's team failed to capitalize on those opportunities, and in the 80th minute, Lars Bender sealed the match with a goal to seal a 2-1 victory.
Thus, Germany is the only team to win all 3 group stage matches at EURO 2012./.
