In the coming years, the German Defense Ministry will invest 6 billion euros to solve current military equipment problems.
Der Spiegel weekly on August 7 cited many documents from the Ministry of Defense showing that military equipment problems are limiting the capabilities of the country's Army and that Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen will soon announce a package of 120 measures to modernize this force.
The most obvious example is that the Eurofighter’s radar problems alone have severely limited Germany’s ability to participate in missions, with only four of its 39 NH90 helicopters currently available.
The German military has faced criticism over the years for the quality of its equipment. Last September, Defense Minister der Leyen admitted that the German military could not meet all its commitments to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) due to equipment problems./.
