Using phone to find the origin of 444 safe food chains

To date, 50 provinces and cities have successfully built 444 safe and traceable agricultural, forestry and fishery supply chains. Many large enterprises have participated in this model.

Currently, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have pioneered the program of coordinating the development of safe vegetable and meat supply chains. Specifically, Hanoi has built and maintained 60 food safety chains (27 chains of animal origin, 33 chains of crop origin).

In Ho Chi Minh City, 32 safe agricultural and food supply chains have been established and maintained with 401 registered business locations selling safe agricultural and food products. Notably, many large enterprises such as Vingroup, Dabaco, Ba Huan and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance... have invested and participated in supplying safe agricultural and food products.

Enterprises and cooperatives participating in the product traceability system will be given an account to fully declare information about their unit, product types, and certificates related to the products they are producing and trading. Thereby, consumers can use devices such as phones with QR code reading software installed to look up product information: For example, which manufacturing facility the product is from, which business it is distributed by...

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) continues to choose 2017 as the "Peak year of action on food safety and hygiene (FSH) in the agricultural sector".

Therefore, the agricultural sector will continue to strengthen coordination with functional agencies and local authorities to step up the fight against and prevent violations of food safety regulations, while continuing to develop supply chains for clean and safe agricultural, forestry and fishery products to meet the needs of domestic consumers as well as for export.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with relevant agencies (Ministry of Public Security, local authorities) to step up the "declaration of war" against the use and trade of banned substances (Salbutamol; Yellow O; Cysteamine) in livestock farming, pesticides of unknown origin; abuse of antibiotics in livestock farming, injection of water into pigs, buffaloes, cows, antibiotics in aquaculture.

In 2016, according to the results of large-scale monitoring by agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the rate of meat samples violating the banned substance Salbutamol was 6 out of a total of 1,345 samples (accounting for 0.44%, in 2015 the rate was 1.07%), especially in the last 6 months of 2016, no Salbutamol was detected in the tested meat samples, the rate of meat samples with antibiotic residues decreased compared to 2015 (11/1,345 meat samples); vegetables, tubers, and fruits with pesticide residues were only 4.1% (in 2015 it was 7.76%).

Also in 2016, central and local authorities increased planned and unscheduled inspections of 21,364 agricultural, forestry and fishery production and business establishments. As a result, 1,923 establishments were discovered and handled for violating food safety and hygiene regulations.
