Stop buying rooftop solar power, thousands of owners lose money

EVN has just issued a press release on "rooftop solar power development after December 31, 2020", right at the time of Decision No. 13/2020/QD-TTg dated April 6, 2020 of the Prime Minister on the mechanism to encourage the development ofsolar powerin Vietnam expired.

To date, there has been no new decision from the Prime Minister and no further implementation instructions from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Accordingly, EVN informed that the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) issued a document stating that this agency is coordinating with consulting units to study models, scales and corresponding electricity purchase and sale prices for each type of rooftop solar power, and is expected to report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for consideration and submit to the Prime Minister on the policy to encourage rooftop solar power for the next phase in the first quarter of 2021.

Therefore, from 0:00 on January 1, 2021 onwards, the type and price of electricity purchase and sale for rooftop solar power have not been determined.

While waiting for instructions from the competent authorities, the electricity corporations,power companyEVN will finalize the list of rooftop solar power systems (completed installation of all or part of the system) put into commercial operation by 24:00 on December 31, 2020.

For solar power systemsRooftops put part of the system into operation by 24:00 on December 31, 2020, the electricity companies will make a record confirming with the investor about the capacity scale of the system that has been put into operation.

Power companies will stop receiving and processing requests for connection and signing electricity purchase contracts from rooftop solar power systems developed after December 31, 2020 until there are new instructions from the competent authorities. For rooftop solar power projects developed after December 31, 2020, power units will not record electricity generated to the grid and will not purchase electricity until there is a new decision from the competent authorities.Prime Minister.

According to updated data, as of December 25, 2020, 83,000 rooftop solar power projects have been connected to the power system with a total installed capacity of nearly 4,700 MWp. The total cumulative power output from rooftop solar power to the grid has reached more than 1.13 billion kWh, contributing to ensuring power supply for the national power system./.
