500kV North - South transmission line affected by forest fire
On September 20, people burned the undergrowth of acacia forests after harvesting, causing a large fire that directly affected the 500kV North-South transmission line in operation.
According to the National Power Transmission Corporation, the location where people set the fire is in Hai Son commune, Hai Lang district, Quang Tri, more than 1km from the 500kV line, but due to the influence of the southwest wind and prolonged dry weather, the fire has spread to nearly 100 hectares, affecting the 500kV North-South line.
After discovering the fire, Quang Tri Power Transmission Company mobilized workers to the scene and reported to the Quang Tri Provincial High Voltage Power Grid Protection Steering Committee and relevant local agencies to urgently control the fire.
By 4:00 p.m. the same day, the fire of nearly 100 hectares of acacia forest had been controlled and the 500kV line was guaranteed to operate normally.

People burning vegetation causes forest fires, affecting power transmission lines. |
In recent times, there have been many incidents that have caused damage to the 220-500kV power lines on the national power transmission system, greatly affecting the power transmission lines and people's property. Particularly in Quang Tri, this is the season of exploiting acacia trees and planting new trees. People burning the vegetation cover caused a forest fire with an area of nearly 100 hectares, not only causing damage to the power transmission lines but also significantly affecting the property of people in the area.
Currently, Quang Tri Power Transmission Company is coordinating with Quang Tri Provincial Police, Hai Lang District Police and local authorities to investigate and clarify the cause for handling.
The 500kV North-South line has a total length of 1,487 km, stretching from Hoa Binh to Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to transmit excess electricity from the North (the cluster of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba hydropower plants, Pha Lai, Uong Bi, Ninh Binh thermal power plants) to supply the Central and Southern regions, while linking the local power systems of the three regions into a unified block.
