Le Huan Street - Bustling urban life

(Baonghean) - If we consider the hustle and bustle of the city as an urban symphony, then the short and long streets with all shades of emotions are like the rhythm that creates the most magical music. Try starting a new day earlier than usual, stopping by Le Huan Street - the street leading to the left wing of Vinh market, to feel the bustling rhythm of that true music of life...

Đường Lê Huân.
Le Huan Street.

If you had followed my advice, at this hour, at dawn, you might have become an astonished witness to the flow of people and vehicles, the bustle of buying and selling activities of all kinds of goods. The cyclos are heavily laden with goods stacked high; the figures, still sleepy, are already running in and out to get this and that; the old people who seem lost in the bustling atmosphere of this early morning, seem to be too familiar with that unusual rhythm of life, also help their children and grandchildren sweep and clean up... The two long rows of houses along the frontage of Le Huan Street, all of which utilize the first floor space for business and trading. If Hanoi has 36 streets with Hang Ma, Hang Bong, Hang Gai, Hang Sat..., each "street" name represents a different typical product for sale; then with Le Huan Street in the city. Vinh, if someone wanted to compare the street name to a “good”, who could possibly identify what “good” it is? Because on Le Huan Street, people trade all kinds of goods: fishing equipment stores are mixed with Western pharmacies, steel and packaging stores are next to children’s toy stores, a few tailor shops are hidden among the noise of buying and selling rice and paddy…

It feels like Le Huan Street is present with all the hustle and bustle of the city for people to live. Live eagerly. Live in a hurry. As if tomorrow, everything will no longer be full of vitality! On this street, there are many houses whose owners are not local people. They come from many different hometowns, gathering on Le Huan Street to make a living and build a career. The young city and the street next to the central market have given them a home, a home, a job. They have become an indispensable part of the urban harmony, a piece in the picture of the bustling life on Le Huan Street. Although not their hometown, this city, this street has given them their whole life, and they have repaid the street's favor with a desire to live a dedicated life.

Fishing gear shops are a typical service on Le Huan Street.

I have a friend who is an old friend, the owner of a fishing gear store at the beginning of Le Huan Street, from the turn from Tran Phu. He is originally from Quang Tri, his wife is from Hue, the couple went through many hardships, fate brought them to Vinh City to make a living. Their three children were born in this city, and now, all three speak Nghe dialect like true Nghe An people. For decades, the whole family has been living cramped in a temporary shack of nearly 50 square meters, most of the frontage area of which has been given priority for business. After many years of hard work, since the time when Le Huan Street was still the "rear base" of the mothers and sisters of Vinh market to set up warehouses, and had not yet formed a bustling business street like today, his family has accumulated quite a fortune. They already have a spacious 2-storey house in Vinh Tan, fully furnished. Yet the three children still carry their belongings to live in the shack! That is, they have been “infected” with the dense, noisy atmosphere of the city, and even if they are away for just a day, it seems like the tree has uprooted itself, and has to drink the remaining sap in its trunk to survive. Therefore, Le Huan Street, let it be bustling and unusual, let it be the atmosphere that brings people to a hurried pace of life, to nurture the intense love in the crowded city.

My old friend sometimes wonders what he would have become if he had chosen to live in another city, on another street? The most pressing need for the urbanites on this street is the need to consume. Here, you can just sit there and find almost everything you need, as long as you have money! That reason is enough to force you to always be active, always work, always think. Like my old friend. Like many other residents and immigrants who are attached to this street. They have become a part of the flesh and blood of Le Huan Street. They are the ones who “create” the modern appearance of a street in the heart of the city.

I am also a child of this city. Yet every time I pass by Le Huan Street, I see a change. The shops are more crowded. The crowds are more crowded. The excitement in every daily activity makes strangers who come here feel a bit lost. Le Huan Street, with all its haste, still exudes the beauty of a first-class city.

Patriot Le Huanwas a modern patriot, pen name Lam Ngu, real name Le Van Huan, from Trung Le village, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province. He lost his father at the age of 2, and was brought up by his mother in his maternal home village of Dong Thai, Viet Yen commune (now Tung Anh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province). He came from a family with a Confucian tradition.

At the age of 18, he began to get acquainted with seniors such as Phan Boi Chau and Dang Thai Than, whose patriotic ideology directly influenced Le Huan. In 1906, he passed the Nghe An examination with the highest score, so he was often called "Giai Huan". In the year of Mau Than (1908), he was exiled to Con Dao by the French and the puppet court.

In 1917, he was released and returned to live in his hometown, closely following the domestic political situation. In 1927, he was elected a member of the Central Vietnam House of Representatives (Ha Tinh province) after 2 years in that fake "parliament".

In 1928, he resigned once with Huynh Thuc Khang, Hoang Van Khai... Before that, he directly founded the first democratic party in Vietnam named Hoi Phuc Viet, in 1927, changed to Tan Viet Party (one of the predecessor parties of the Indochinese Communist Party) of which he was the party leader. In 1929, he was arrested by French colonialists and imprisoned in Vinh Prison (Nghe An), he went on a hunger strike and disemboweled himself to death that year.
