EURO 2024: England secure top spot in Group C; Austria beat Netherlands 3-2
England have won Group C; Austria won 3-2 against the Netherlands after a thrilling score chase. Those are the highlights of the EURO 2024 qualifying round.
England disappoint again
England won the top spot in Group C but the fans of the foggy country were hardly happy with their team's performance.

Slovenia needed at least 1 point to qualify for the next round. Therefore, the underdog team played defensively and let England take the lead. In this match, England controlled the ball up to 76% but only had 10 shots while Slovenia only had 4 shots.
In the end, England were held to a 0-0 draw by Slovenia. Because Denmark also drew 0-0 with Serbia in the same match, the Three Lions secured a ticket to the round of 16 as the top team in Group C.
With the top spot in the group, England only have to face one of the third-placed teams with the best record. But the worrying thing for coach Gareth Southgate and his team is that they are facing the risk of facing a formidable opponent, the Netherlands.
Austria beat Netherlands after thrilling score chase

Against Austria, the Netherlands conceded an early goal in the 6th minute due to a silly own goal by Donyell Malen. Coach Ronald Koeman was forced to abandon his defensive style of play and send his attacking players onto the field in the first half.
The second half saw a flurry of change, with the Netherlands equalizing early in the 47th minute with a beautiful curling shot from Coady Gakpo. The orange team returned to the top of the table, pushing Austria down to the Third Division.
The score chase became more exciting than ever when Austria regained the lead with Sabitzer's shot into the Dutch net in the 80th minute.
