FIFA permanently suspends referee who fixed match in World Cup qualifiers
Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been banned for life for influencing the outcome of the match between South Africa and Senegal in 2016.
Referee Lamptey awarded a penalty to South Africa in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in November 2016. The ball hit a Senegal player's foot in the box but Lamptey judged it was a handball. South Africa won the match 2-1.

After an investigation, FIFA confirmed that this was not a judgment error but a deliberate mistake by the Ghanaian referee.
"The referee was charged with illegally influencing the result of the match," FIFA said in a statement.
That is why Mr. Lamptey was banned from participating in football-related activities for life.
Through this penalty, FIFA also declared war on match-fixing and match-fixing in football.
