Foreign Affairs highlights 'strategic mistakes' of the West and Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - According to an article published in the US magazine Foreign Affairs, the Washington administration should start negotiations with Russia on a ceasefire in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the West and Kiev's desire to take control of the five regions that have been annexed by Russia is a strategic mistake.

Ria Novosti quoted an article in Foreign Affairs magazine saying that the US and the European Union need to start negotiations with Russia on a ceasefire in Ukraine.
"The United States should begin consultations with Ukraine and its European partners on a strategy based on Kiev's readiness to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces need to shift from an offensive to a defensive posture," the article said.
Foreign Affairs notes that the goal of the West and the Kiev government is to take control of the five regions annexed by Russia, including Crimea. However, the article believes that such a strategic mistake will lead to a reassessment of Ukraine's foreign policy.
According to Foreign Affairs, Kiev must realize that it needs to stop trying to regain control of territory, and focus on preserving and restoring the rest of the country.
At the plenary session of the Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia has not stopped and will not stop cooperating with Europe, Ria Novosti reported.
"We don't want to cut off relations with anyone. And we don't do this. We don't slam any doors: no doors, no vents, no windows. If someone decides to isolate themselves, that's their business. They are depriving themselves of opportunities," Putin said.
Recently, Western media have increasingly mentioned that the US and EU are tired of the Ukrainian conflict and that support for President Zelensky's government is waning. The New York Times has drawn attention to the fact that Kiev is facing not only a lack of media attention, but also a lack of ammunition. Although US President Joe Biden has promised to support both Ukraine and Israel, Israel may end up with weapons that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently running out of.
