Formosa has not completed 26 environmental protection items.
Of the 58 mandatory items to be carried out to protect the environment, Formosa has only completed 32 tasks.
The People's Committee of Ha Tinh province recently had a working session with Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation to hear a report on the project's commitment to environmental treatment.
According to Formosa’s representative, the inspection team of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment previously determined that the company had 58 shortcomings in environmental protection items. These included tasks such as: Completing and managing environmental protection works; improving waste storage areas; and coordinating environmental protection monitoring information.
To date, the company has completed 32/58 items. The unfinished items are mainly long-term improvements, including wastewater and exhaust systems; the company has arranged a time for improvement, which can be completed within 3 years.

On August 23, a working group from Ha Tinh province surveyed the ecosystem at the bottom of Son Duong Bay. According to the working group, there were some small fish species appearing here with higher density than in April and May. The working group assessed that the coral reef ecosystem, seagrass and marine resources in this area showed signs of recovery.
In June, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation admitted that it was the direct cause of the mass fish deaths in four central provinces. Formosa’s leadership apologized to the Vietnamese people and pledged to pay $500 million in compensation to remedy the consequences and improve the environment.
