G7 issues joint statement calling on China to put pressure on Russia
(Baonghean.vn) - On September 19, the G7 called on China to pressure Russia to end its aggressive actions in Ukraine after the G7 foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly and issued a joint statement.
The joint statement, issued by the foreign minister of Japan, the rotating G7 chair, stressed that member countries hope China will push for Russia's immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine.

The statement came as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi embarked on a four-day visit to Russia, during which both countries are expected to pledge to deepen political ties, with President Vladimir Putin likely to visit Beijing in the future.
The G7 also welcomed China's participation in the Ukraine-hosted meeting in Jeddah and "further encouraged China to support a just and lasting peace, including through direct dialogue with Ukraine."
The G7 joint statement did not mention any countries by name, but members “reiterated the G7’s call on third parties to cease all support for Russia’s war or face heavy costs.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Dmitry Polyansky - First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations said that most of the international community wants peace in Ukraine rather than weakening Russia as Western countries have been doing.
"Zelensky himself will certainly participate in this show (the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on September 20), and will try to play a leading role... But this will not change the reality we live in, because a significant part of the international community, an increasingly significant part, understands that the Ukrainian crisis is complex and that there are a number of reasons that need to be eliminated in order to achieve a lasting solution," he stressed.
According to Mr. Dmitry Polyansky, "they want peace in Ukraine, not to harm and weaken Russia like Western countries are doing"./.
