Coi village, Xuan Son commune has 9-spurred chickens.
The concept of number 9, such as "cuu tu cu lao" (9 words of island) talks about the merit of parents including: sinh (carrying and giving birth), cuc (supporting), duc (teaching), phu (protecting), xuc (breastfeeding), truong (raising), co (looking after), phuc (embracing), and phuc (protecting). "Cuu dinh" - nine cauldrons symbolize the feudal power of East Asia. "Cuu trung" - 9 high levels of heaven, indicating the place where the King lives, from which it is determined that the King's throne must be placed on 9 steps, the stairs of the stilt houses of the Thai people in Nghe An also have 9 steps. "cuu van tieu" are 9 layers of clouds indicating the highest place; "vinh cuu" is the most stable; "cuu hell mon" is the deepest place.
The ancient Vietnamese also believed that the number 9 symbolized authority, goodness, and luck. In order for his daughter My Nuong to choose a worthy husband, the 18th Hung King challenged her: "Tomorrow, whoever comes first brings... a 9-tusked elephant, a 9-spurred chicken, a 9-red-haired horse, I will let My Nuong be his wife." The next morning, Son Tinh from the Ba Vi mountain region brought all the gifts and arrived first to take My Nuong as his wife. Thuy Tinh, who arrived late with the gifts, had to return. Thuy Tinh "lost the battle", harbored hatred and caused floods to bring disaster upon the people.

The 9-spur chicken breed is thought to only exist in legends, but miraculously, they are appearing in a rural area in the land of King Hung!
At the beginning of the 21st century, Vietnamese scientists called for investment in developing and protecting the gene source of the rare multi-spurred chicken breed being raised by the Dao people in two communes, Xuan Son and Xuan Dai, Tan Son district, Phu Tho province.
Surveying thousands of chickens of hundreds of households in these two communes, poultry experts initially concluded: The multi-spur chicken breed here reproduces quickly, grows slowly, the legs of both roosters and hens grow spurs as soon as they hatch from the egg, at least 4 spurs, many 8 spurs, it is very rare to see 9-spur chickens. Of about 300 multi-spur chickens in Xuan Son commune, only a few have 9 spurs. Multi-spur chickens are less susceptible to diseases, difficult to raise, it takes 3-4 months to raise a batch for harvest, the weight of adult roosters is over 2kg, hens are only 1.8kg or less. Multi-spur hens only incubate 8-10 eggs per batch, the incubation interval between the previous batch is not less than 2 months. Multi-spur chickens only eat rice and corn, like to roam free to be free, if kept in cages like industrial chickens, they will die from lack of freedom. There was a Dao family here who brought a few pairs of multi-spurred chickens as gifts for relatives in another province to breed, but after a few months of leaving the homeland, the pair of chickens passed away one by one.
It turns out that the special chicken breed on King Hung's land was "planned" by heaven and earth and the sacred spirit of the mountains and rivers since ancient times (!)
