Music game shows are losing steam, comedy games are on the rise in 2015

2015 is the year that Vietnamese entertainment industry witnessed a spectacular change in the appeal of game shows on television.

If 2 years ago, music talent search programs exploded and created a huge attraction from the media and the audience, then 2015 witnessed a clear decline of these programs. On the contrary, game shows and comedy programs attracted more audiences. The entertainment trends of the audience have changed partly due to the stressful life, so people also tend to choose programs that are humorous, fun and relaxing rather than simple singing competitions to find talent.

In addition, the singing competitions that have been held continuously and “swept” the stages for a long time have also caused the number of potential contestants to decrease. Therefore, the quality of the contestants is no longer as good as before, and the voices no longer bring the element of surprise. Too many old faces “persist” in looking for opportunities, so they appear continuously in large and small competitions, which also limits the appeal of the program.

Not to mention, the scandals surrounding singing competitions also more or less reduce the value of the program.

Music game shows - scandalous and quiet

In 2015, we can mention some outstanding singing game shows: The Voice of Vietnam, The Voice Kids, Vietnam Idol, I am the winner... In which, if the show is outstanding, it will be involved in a scandal, or end quietly, without any resonance.

The Voice 2015 has a pretty hot coaching staff. Singers My Tam and Thu Phuong are two attractive factors who have agreed to participate alongside singers Dam Vinh Hung and Tuan Hung. The first steps of the program have also created attraction, curiosity and interest from the audience, promising to explode.

However, as the competition progressed, the show was no longer able to retain the audience because the quality of this year's contestants was... consistently bad. There was absolutely no breakthrough or outstanding performance from any contestant. The initial curious factors such as: Ca nuong Kieu Anh, Kimmese, Phuong Vu (the girl who ate candy and sang)... later became weaker and did not have enough strength compared to the remaining contestants.

The four most famous coaches can't save a show with poor quality contestants

Surely the audience of the first season of The Voice Vietnam will not forget the attraction of the 14 contestants of each team even after the blind audition round. The singers created their own attraction, got attention, and were known by name, such as: Prince Bui Anh Tuan, Bao Anh, Huong Tram, Dinh Huong, Dong Lan... And through each competition night, the audience and the coaches waited to see the performance of each contestant.

And in this year's program? There was absolutely no name mentioned for outstanding talent, especially even though they made it to the semi-finals, the audience couldn't even remember the full names of each team's contestants. No voice or individual image was truly a breakthrough or outstanding factor. The performances were also quite bland.

Even the champion of the program, Duc Phuc, was not really convincing, not highly appreciated for his singing voice, lacking the qualities of a star despite the guarantee and full support of singer My Tam. After the program, Duc Phuc released a new music product but it did not receive the attention as expected. Duc Phuc's MV, which My Tam expected, quickly "sunk" into hundreds of other music products that were still released every day.

The Voice Vietnam 2015 program ended and the echoes were behind-the-scenes scandals of judges “showing no mercy”, contestants taking turns accusing the coaches, bitter lessons about “teacher-student relationships” in showbiz were exposed one after another. These were truly the dark sides of the program that disappointed many people.

The Voice Kids 2015 is no exception. This year, the contestants are equally talented and no one really stands out. Right after the final night of The Voice Kids ended, the contestant who won the championship - Hong Minh - also fell silent. Since winning the prize until now, Hong Minh has completely disappeared from the media. If the audience has followed the program this year, they will see that the performances are invested in, the child singers also have more invested and diverse performances, however, the program still does not create the desired attraction.

In addition, some other singing programs also could not escape the indifference of the audience on television. The Solo with Bolero contest was quite quiet, although this is a contest with lyrical music that is favored by the majority of Vietnamese audiences. Or I am the winner, Star Academy... broadcast on HTV also could not escape the miserable fate.

Attractive comedy game shows - sky-high ratings

In contrast to music competitions, comedy shows are more popular and loved by audiences, not to mention these shows are also the most searched on YouTube.

Some examples include: Comedy Challenge, Oh My God, You're Here, Vietnamese Comedy, Laughter Across Vietnam... Not only on the central channels VTV and HTV, but also on provincial stations like THVL1, comedy shows also attract audiences.

Humor, light entertainment and many surprises are what comedy game shows bring to the audience. In the past, comedy acts were performed by famous comedians, and the audience could easily recognize the tricks and tricks because that was the “taste” of each person. In these programs, the element that creates laughter comes from the contestants on the show. They are young comedians, unknown people.

In Oh My God, You're Here, most of the guests are famous artists, but they don't know what will happen to them or what surprises they will face. It is the quick reactions and flexibility of each guest that create the new and attractive elements.

The Comedy Challenge program “gathers” all the “hidden” talented comedians from all over the country. The show Laughter Across Vietnam is another case. The young comedians participating in the contest have the opportunity to show all their talents and passion on stage, so they strive to bring the best and most excellent performances to the audience.
