Nearly 1,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice in Anh Son are waiting for water.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the agricultural calendar, by June 25, Anh Son district will complete the summer-autumn rice planting, but due to drought, up to this point, nearly 1,000 hectares of rice fields in the localities have not been planted.
While in areas with proactive irrigation, people have closed the summer-autumn rice area, in fields such as Gia Len, Cua Hang (Hoi Son commune), the entire area still cannot be planted. The reason is that the dam is exhausted, in the past time although there has been rain but it is not significant so it is not enough to meet the production needs of the people.

Many fields in Hoi Son, Hung Son, Linh Son, and Cao Son communes are still left fallow after harvest. |
Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong in village 5, Hoi Son commune, said: This season, my family planted 3 sao of rice, but currently only half of it has been planted, the other half is still left unplanted due to lack of water. The seedlings are almost too old, but there is still no water for planting.
Mr. Bui Cong Diep - Vice Chairman of Hoi Son Commune People's Committee said: This year's summer-autumn crop, the whole commune planned to produce 92 hectares of rice, but due to lack of water, only 40 hectares have been planted. The unplanted area is mainly concentrated in the high and narrow fields. The commune has a policy to encourage people to grow corn to avoid drought, but most people are still waiting for rainwater to continue planting.

Many areas of land have been plowed but rice cannot be grown because there is no water. |
According to the report of the agricultural department of Anh Son district, as of June 27, 2016, the whole district has only planted 1,877 hectares out of 2,700 hectares. In which, many communes have not planted much area such as: Binh Son 120 hectares, Hung Son 70 hectares, Linh Son 110 hectares, Cao Son 100 hectares...
Through reviewing and evaluating all water sources, currently 4/5 reservoirs owned by the Nghe An Southwest Irrigation Company Limited are seriously lacking water and cannot provide enough water to serve. For example, Khe Nay reservoir has only 7% capacity left, Ruong Xoi reservoir has only 7%, Khe Chung reservoir has 8%. Therefore, to ensure water for irrigation and summer-autumn crop care, localities need to ensure the thorough exploitation and saving of water resources.

Although the seedlings are good, they cannot be planted yet. |
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang - Head of the Agriculture Department of Anh Son district, said: Currently, the unplanted rice areas are mainly high-lying fields, without proactive water sources, and must depend on rainwater. Therefore, the district has come up with a plan: For areas with proactive water sources, they will continue to produce short-term varieties. For high-lying land that cannot be planted by July 31, they will proactively organize and direct people to produce winter vegetables to increase income value.
