Nearly 100 elementary school students hospitalized for suspected food poisoning

On December 12, at Nguyen Trung Truc Primary School, Ward 3, Tan An City, Long An Province, nearly 100 students were hospitalized, suspected of food poisoning.

At around 10:00 a.m. the same day, boarding students of grades 4 and 5 and some grade 3 students of Nguyen Trung Truc Primary School ate lunch at the school's communal kitchen, with dishes including: cabbage soup with minced meat and fried fish cakes.

About 30 minutes after eating, the children had symptoms of dizziness, headache and vomiting. The school took them to the emergency room at Long An General Hospital.

After treatment, most of the children were taken home by their families for further monitoring. As of 4 p.m. the same day, 37 children were still being treated at Long An General Hospital.

Mr. Pham Van Dau, Head of the Long An Food Safety and Hygiene Department, said that after receiving the information, the Department coordinated with the Tan An City Medical Center to promptly go to Nguyen Trung Truc Primary School to collect food, rice and water samples and send them to the Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Ho Chi Minh City for testing./.
