Following the implementation of Circular 29 regulating supplementary teaching and learning, many localities have piloted a model allowing junior and senior high school students to have Saturdays off before expanding it to the general public.

Starting March 10th, Ninh Giang district became the first district-level locality in Hai Duong province to allow junior high school students to have Saturdays off. This decision was made after consultation with the district's education department, public consultation, and received strong support from teachers and parents.

In Hai Phong, after Circular 29 came into effect, schools simultaneously stopped offering extra classes, some schools adopted new timetables and gave students Saturdays off every week.

Not only in Hai Duong and Hai Phong, but also in Khanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Bac Ninh, Yen Bai, and other provinces, numerous schools had previously given students Saturday off.

Meanwhile, localities such as Bac Giang and Ba Ria - Vung Tau... are planning to pilot a five-session-per-week schooling schedule for students, with Saturdays off, in the near future.

Lao Cai province, the first locality in the country to implement a 5-day school week after a 5-year pilot program, has officially decided to apply this system to junior high schools. According to the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Education and Training, allowing students and teachers two days off on weekends has yielded many positive results. Teachers have the opportunity to improve their professional skills; students can participate in experiential activities, extracurricular programs, and develop life skills for holistic development.
