During a working session with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized the need to closely and effectively link people-to-people diplomacy with State diplomacy, contributing to creating a peaceful and stable environment for the cause of national construction, development and protection.

On the afternoon of June 4, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a working session with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that the policy of expanding the people's foreign front is a very correct and creative policy of our Party. Together with State diplomacy, the people's foreign front has made important contributions to the past struggle for national liberation as well as to the country's socio-economic construction and development today. People's foreign affairs activities have made international friends increasingly understand more about the country and people of Vietnam.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations needs to continue promoting its achievements, strive to overcome limitations and weaknesses to better perform the tasks assigned by the Party and State, closely and effectively link people-to-people diplomacy with State diplomacy, contributing to creating a peaceful and stable environment for the cause of building, developing and protecting the Fatherland.
At the working session, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and leaders of several ministries and functional agencies also considered and gave specific opinions on a number of proposals and recommendations of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, such as the request for the Government to issue a document defining a coordination mechanism between State diplomacy and people's diplomacy, and issues on regimes and policies to support the implementation of the Union's political tasks.
Reporting to the Prime Minister at the working session, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Vu Xuan Hong said that in recent years, the organization and activities of the Union have developed strongly, making many important contributions to the cause of innovation, national development and national defense.
Currently, the Union has 97 member organizations, including 58 Associations and Committees at the Central level and 39 Unions at the provincial and municipal levels. In recent times, the Union has established an international partnership network of thousands of organizations and individuals in all continents, especially in key areas.
The Union has actively promoted activities for peace, solidarity, friendship and people-to-people cooperation, including many large, important and in-depth activities, focusing on key areas, with high political significance and practical effectiveness.
As the focal point for relations and mobilization of foreign non-governmental aid, the Union has effectively implemented this work. From 1992 to present, the amount of disbursed aid has reached nearly 3 billion USD, focusing on priority areas such as overcoming the consequences of war, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, building health and education infrastructure, solving social problems, developing the economy, protecting the environment and natural resources, providing emergency relief due to natural disasters, etc.
However, in addition to the achieved results, the Union still has certain limitations that need to be overcome, such as in some foreign affairs activities, the Union has not fully promoted its role and advantages; the quality of partnerships in some localities is still limited; the work of building the Union and its staff has not met the requirements of the new situation; some member organizations are slow to be improved; the organizational model of the Union in provinces and cities is not unified and lacks a mechanism to innovate, strengthen the organization, and improve the quality of operations.
