Meeting with outstanding elderly people campaigning for the implementation of population policy/family planning
(Baonghean.vn) -To celebrate Vietnam Population Day (December 26, 1961 - December 26, 2012), this morning, December 18, the Department of Population/Family Planning - Association of the Elderly organized a meeting with typical elderly people in the propaganda and mobilization to implement the population policy/family planning in 2012.
Attending the meeting were comrade Nguyen Dang An - Deputy Director of the Department of Population and Family Planning, General Department of Population of Vietnam; representatives of provincial departments and branches and delegates of the elderly.
Overview of the meeting
In recent times, the Provincial Association of the Elderly (NCT) has coordinated with the Department of Population/Family Planning to open training courses to provide knowledge and skills in consulting on elderly care; organize a live dialogue program on the topic "Population aging and challenges"; establish 20 "NCT helping the elderly" clubs. In particular, in their positions as prestigious village elders in the community, the NCT has actively participated in disseminating population policies; contributed ideas on population policies; implemented well the movement "Exemplary grandparents and parents, filial children and grandchildren"; coordinated with clans and clan leaders to encourage their children and grandchildren to practice family planning...
In 2012, the model of "Community-based Elderly Care and Counseling" was implemented in 3 districts of Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, and Nghia Dan, helping the elderly access health care services and improve population quality.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Dang An - Deputy Director of the Department of Population and Family Planning, General Department of Population of Vietnam acknowledged the contributions of the elderly to population/family planning work. He hoped that in the coming time, the elderly in the whole province would continue to promote their role in mobilizing their children and the community to implement population/family planning policies. On the other hand, the population sector needs to advise all levels and sectors to effectively implement social security work for the elderly; maintain and replicate models and typical examples in caring for the elderly.
Awarding Certificate of Merit from the Department of Health to outstanding elderly people
On this occasion, the Department of Health awarded certificates of merit to 40 outstanding elderly people with achievements in promoting the implementation of population policy/family planning in 2012.
