Having an accident, Vietnamese racer leaves Asian motorcycle race
Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung could not complete today's race at the Suzuki Asian Challenger motorcycle race because his front tire suddenly lost pressure.
At 12 noon on April 18 (Hanoi time), the first Suzuki Asian Challenger competition took place at Sepang racetrack, Malaysia.
Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung represents Vietnam competing with 16 other athletes from Asian countries.
This is the first time in history that a Vietnamese motorsport racer has entered a professional continental racetrack.
Facing opponents of superior class, but in the first rounds, Anh Dung (number 39) continuously stuck close to the large group.
Mr. Dung is a mechanic who has only been racing motorcycles for two years but has already achieved good results in domestic amateur competitions. This 24-year-old racer is highly regarded for his youth and courage in handling situations on the racetrack.
To prepare for this Asian racing tour, Anh Dung was sent by sponsor Suzuki to Malaysia, where he hired a coach to train in a professional environment for a week to get familiar with the techniques and tactics on the racetrack.
Although he has just started competing with professional racers, Anh Dung has shown clear progress on the track, causing many opponents to try to stick with and restrain him.
In previous attempts at the track, Anh Dung had completed the race. However, this afternoon, while doing the sixth lap, the front tire lost pressure, causing him to wobble and fall.
Mr. Dung was immediately escorted off the track to the assembly point.
"I am very sorry for this unexpected incident. I know it will be difficult to compete for the rankings, but the fact that I am racing well and surpassing many opponents makes me excited. Unfortunately, the flat tire prevented me from completing my race," he shared with VnExpress after the incident.
Besides Anh Dung, three other racers also fell on the track today. Meanwhile, the first place in the stage was won by Thai racer Patis Chooprathet, second was won by Gunnawan (Indonesia) and third place belonged to Malaysian racer Yazid.
The Vietnamese racer's car is being repaired to continue tomorrow's second event with 12 laps in Sepang, Malaysia.
