Previously, the Department of Functional Exploration also admitted patient Pham Viet Nghia (22 years old), residing in Trang Son commune, Do Luong district, to the hospital with abdominal pain. Doctors discovered a strange, sharp foreign object stuck in the patient's small intestine, causing ulcers, infections and a risk of intestinal perforation. Initially, the treatment was determined to be a laparoscopic surgery to remove the foreign object. After a thorough consultation, the doctors performed surgery on the patient using an endoscope.
On December 5, after more than 4 hours of surgery, the doctors of the Department successfully removed a foreign object from the patient's intestine, a sharp iron clamp, more than 10 cm long. The patient's family said they did not understand why Mr. Nghia swallowed this clamp.
