(Baonghean) - The increasing participation and support of social charities has contributed to bringing the lives of many poor patients to a new page.

Wife donates kidney, husband revives

In village 2, An Dinh hamlet (Thuy Van commune, Thai Thuy, Thai Binh), if you ask about Nguyen Cong Thuong's house, everyone will know. Four years ago, the whole village was shocked when this young man, born in 1987, was healthy, but after being sick and going to the doctor, he was found to have severe kidney failure.

After seeking treatment everywhere without seeing any progress, Mr. Thuong had to return to the provincial hospital for dialysis to save money. The optimal solution was a kidney transplant, but after waiting for a suitable kidney from a brain-dead donor, his wife, Bui Thi Thoa, felt like she was sitting on hot coals. She decided to get tested and luckily her kidney could be transplanted to her husband.

The kidney transplant was successfully performed by doctors at Vinmec International General Hospital in March 2017. Thanks to good progress, 15 days later, the couple was discharged from the hospital to the joy of the whole family. Currently, Mr. Thuong's health is stable, all vital signs are at normal levels. Mr. Thuong can play with his children, exercise lightly, do simple tasks...

After years of treatment, Mr. Thuong said that even in his dreams he never believed that he would be able to return to a normal life: no needles, no vein punctures, no blood filtration, and the heavy atmosphere in the house would disappear. Although there are still many worries, for Ms. Thoa, life has now "turned a new page". Her biggest wish is that both husband and wife maintain good health to raise their children to adulthood.

Mom gave me a second life

Having the same kidney failure as Mr. Thuong, the condition of Mr. Luong Van Quyet (born in 1981, residing in zone 16, Luong Lo commune, Thanh Ba, Phu Tho) is more critical because when discovered (August 2016), the disease was in the final stage, requiring a kidney transplant to preserve his life.

The man who is the breadwinner of the family has often despaired because there are no organs from brain-dead donors. When screening relatives, only his mother, Mrs. Le Thi Vien (63 years old), could donate a kidney. Without hesitation, the mother donated her kidney to save her son.

On March 9, 2017, the kidney donation and transplant between Quyet's mother and son was also successfully performed by Vinmec doctors. After the surgery, the health of both mother and son improved well. After being discharged from the hospital after 15 days, Quyet continued to take medication according to the post-operative regimen and had regular check-ups to ensure his health.

“My health has improved a lot, but I will rest until the end of the year and then find a suitable job. This is truly a dream for me and my family,” Quyet shared. After her kidney surgery, Ms. Vien (his mother) is now back to normal.

The joy of Mr. Thuong and Mr. Quyet was doubled when the entire cost of the kidney transplant was sponsored by Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup). This is a charity surgery program implemented by Thien Tam Fund at Vinmec hospitals nationwide, for patients from poor households, near-poor households, those in difficult circumstances, and those who have contributed to the revolution.
