Domestic coffee prices and international prices do not always move in the same direction. This phenomenon shows that Vietnamese farmers are increasingly taking an active role in regulating the market, especially when their economic conditions have improved significantly.
When prices do not meet expectations, farmers tend not to sell their products, leading to a narrowing supply. Meanwhile, export businesses that have signed contracts in advance are forced to accept higher coffee prices to ensure they have enough goods to deliver to their partners. Conversely, when there are no large export contracts, the pressure to increase prices will be significantly reduced.
In the coming time, coffee prices will remain high until at least October - the time when Vietnam begins its new harvest. However, the coffee market has recently been experiencing unpredictable fluctuations and rapid changes, causing many difficulties and risks to the production and business activities of enterprises in the industry.

Coffee prices rose sharply last week, buoyed by speculator buying. Lower inventories on the market fueled the rally, especially as U.S. roasters scrambled to find alternative sources after the U.S. imposed a 50 percent tariff on coffee imports from Brazil.
In addition, forecasts of lower coffee production in Brazil also contributed to the price increase. Indonesia has finished its harvest, while Vietnam has not yet entered its season.
In Indonesia, Sumatra robusta coffee prices have cooled down compared to last week. The current offer price is only 30 USD above the September-October contract, while last week the difference was up to 230 USD for the November contract. Another trader also adjusted the price of coffee beans to a 50 USD premium over the November contract to match the development on the London exchange.
According to a report from I & M Smith, the Brazilian Real has appreciated 3.28% against the USD since the beginning of August. A stronger Real usually reduces the export incentive of Brazilian coffee producers. This situation leads to domestic price resistance and the reluctance of producers with the financial capacity to sell coffee at current prices.
