In the past, the world coffee market was often led by Arabica coffee, with prices always 2-3 times higher than Robusta coffee. However, the world coffee market in 2024 is the opposite.
From the beginning of the year to the end of September 2024, coffee prices on the world market were mainly led by Robusta, when countries producing this type of coffee, including Vietnam, faced difficulties due to drought and harsh weather caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
European coffee importers are already rushing to increase imports ahead of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) coming into force in 2024. Some experts predict that coffee market tensions will ease in 2025, but long-term coffee prices are still likely to rise due to climate change and other factors.
