The cooling coffee prices have many people asking: Should we buy now to stock up as the harvest season in Vietnam is coming to an end? In fact, during last year's crop, coffee prices doubled before Tet and at the end of April.

According to Mr. Do Duy Thanh, Director of FnB Director Consulting Company and Horeca Business School, the wholesale price of roasted coffee that shops buy is 185,000 - 200,000 VND/kg, mainly old-season goods. The price of higher-quality roasted coffee is also higher.

Coffee is very price sensitive. Increasing prices can easily lead to losing customers, so many coffee shops are developing alternative drinks with more stable ingredient prices.

The global and Vietnamese coffee markets are experiencing unpredictable fluctuations, directly affecting prices. After just one day of shocking price increases, the next day coffee prices suddenly dropped sharply in both the world and Vietnamese markets.

Based on current supply and demand factors and recent unexpected price increases and decreases, experts predict that coffee prices may continue to decrease slightly tomorrow, January 6, 2025.

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery March 2025: Down 88 USD/ton, to 4,968 USD/ton.

Delivery in May 2025: Down 80 USD/ton, to 4,897 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

March 2025 delivery: Down 8.2 cents/lb, to 318.65 cents/lb.

May 2025 delivery: Down 7.2 cents/lb, to 314.90 cents/lb.

Arabica coffee prices fell to a four-week low as rains in Brazil's key coffee-growing region of Minas Gerais exceeded 182 percent of the historical average last week, according to expert Nguyen Quang Binh.

In addition, the depreciation of the Brazilian Real against the USD, which remains at a record low, has encouraged selling activities in Brazil at a relatively low discount to the New York floor. As a result, arabica inventories have continuously increased due to increased exports.

The outlook for this year remains positive despite the current difficulties, according to Leonardo Rossetti, analyst at StoneX.

Vietnam’s coffee harvest is expected to be good, while Brazil’s robusta crop is forecast to hit a record. “We believe that robusta will become more and more present in the international market,” Rossetti said.
