The tragic situation of the child who was abused and abandoned at the hospital
Despite having 5 siblings, little TTA - the abused and abandoned child at the National Children's Hospital - has never met his own blood relatives. After nearly a year of wandering around boarding houses with his mother until the moment of death, the little boy is still alone and orphaned...
Unhappy childhood
Although her household registration is at No. 8 Tong Duy Tan Street, Hang Bong Ward (Hoan Kiem District), for nearly 20 years, Ms. Dinh Lan Huong (TTA's mother) has not lived here.
According to the population management records kept at Hang Bong Police Station, Ms. Huong's family sold their house and moved away from here in 2003 and only Ms. Hoang Thi Nga (Ms. Huong's mother and also the child's grandmother) comes back here every day to sell goods to help her sister earn extra income.

The baby is in a coma at the hospital. |
On the evening of August 5, through information from the Hang Bong Ward Police Chief, Mrs. Nga learned that her grandchild had been abused and abandoned at the hospital. She was so shocked that she left her work and rushed to the hospital to take care of her grandchild. Meeting us at the Emergency Department, she cried and recounted the story.
Mrs. Nga only had two children and Huong was the eldest. However, unlike her younger brother who was very obedient, since she was young, Huong often ran away from home and hung out with bad, unemployed friends.
Married and having 3 children, not long after her husband went to jail, Huong also left home to follow bad friends, leaving her children to be cared for by her parents. Mrs. Nga said: “For the past ten years, she has not even bothered to come home to visit her children. Even on holidays, she does not bother to buy them clothes or gifts. My husband and I are old, and we do not have a pension. Every day we only know how to sell goods for hire to support ourselves and our 3 children, so life is extremely difficult. She gave birth to children, but has never contributed a single cent to my husband and I to raise the children.”
Because she ran away from home and disappeared without a trace, Mrs. Nga did not even know that Huong had given birth to baby TTA last year. In fact, in addition to the three children with her first husband, Huong also gave birth to a fourth child in 2014 with a temporary husband on Bach Dang Street (Chuong Duong Ward, Hoan Kiem). She did not raise this child and left it with her husband's family. When she gave birth to baby TTA, not knowing who to leave the child with, she dragged the child along with her wandering steps until she broke the law and was arrested.
Who abused the child?
According to information from Hang Bong Ward Police, Huong has recently been involved in drug trafficking cases. In August 2016, she was arrested by Ba Dinh District Police for drug trafficking. However, because she was raising a child under 36 months old, Huong was released on bail. But old habits die hard, more than a month later, Huong was arrested by Phu Tho Province Police for the same crime and released on bail again. Until recently, Huong was arrested again by Ngo Thi Nham Ward Police for drug trafficking.

The room at 58 Yen Phu where baby TTA stayed these past days. |
It is known that after being arrested, Huong handed over baby TTA to a friend named Chi, who lives on Kim Ma Street (Ba Dinh District). Chi then handed the baby over to Nguyen Thanh Hang at 58 Yen Phu to raise until the incident of the baby being abused and abandoned at the hospital.
On the morning of August 6, reporters went to Hang's house to find out what happened. Mr. Tran Van Thang - Hang's cousin and also a resident of the same house said that about 10 days ago, the family saw Hang carrying a small child home to raise and said that it was the child of a friend who asked them to look after him.
Hang's room is on the second floor but the door is always closed and quiet. Occasionally, the family hears the baby crying. However, the crying is so soft that everyone thinks the baby is just crying like other children and doesn't pay attention.
"Every day, Hang goes to buy porridge for her child to eat and sometimes a friend named Bien in Long Bien district brings clothes, diapers and milk for the child. On August 3, no one knew how Hang took the child to the hospital until they read the newspaper and learned about this story," said Mr. Thang.
Also present at the hospital at this time was Ms. Nguyen Kim Anh, residing on An Duong Street, Yen Phu Ward (Ba Dinh District) - who claimed to be TTA's grandmother. Ms. Kim Anh said that more than 10 days ago, she received a message from Huong asking her to help raise TTA because the child was Huong's child with Quan - her son (who is also serving a prison sentence). When she received the news, although she was half-believing, half-doubting, she asked relatives to look for her but could not find out who was currently raising TTA.
“The circle of friends of her parents is extremely complicated, their addresses and schedules are also unclear, so no one knows their whereabouts. If I had found her sooner, this day would not have happened,” said Mrs. Kim Anh, crying.
After 3 days of intensive treatment, on the night of August 5, information from the National Children's Hospital said that TTA's health condition had taken a turn for the worse. Specifically, the child had a high fever, convulsions and then fell into a coma. This was the result of a wound that led to a traumatic brain injury and a severe brain hemorrhage. Currently, doctors here are still urgently applying all measures to save the child.
