(Baonghean) -Despite his poor family, Mac Van Thanh (in Can village, Tam Thai commune, Tuong Duong mountainous district - Nghe An) still nurtured the will to study with the hope of passing the university entrance exam, to have the opportunity to find a job and help his family. With the university admission notice, Thanh's whole family worried: Where would he get the money to study?

Thanh’s family was “famously” poor in Can village. The whole family lived in a shabby thatched house, inside which they could see a patch of sky through the old, dilapidated thatched roof. Last year, the neighbors took pity on them and pooled money to build a new house, so now Thanh’s family had a place to shelter from the rain and sun.

Five years ago, Thanh's older brother, Mac Van Ha, also passed the entrance exam to Nghe An Pedagogical College, but because his family was poor and he loved his younger siblings, he had to drop out of school and stay home to work in the fields to support his younger siblings. Thanh's older sister, Mac Thi Nam, was in the middle of her studies and also dropped out of school, "Well, I'll save everything for my youngest brother." After dropping out of school for a few years, Nam got married, also from Can village (Tam Thai). Her husband's family was not much better off, so they couldn't help her younger siblings. Thanh's parents both suffered from tuberculosis and were no longer able to work.

This year, Mac Van Thanh passed the entrance exam to Vinh University, majoring in Agriculture. Holding the admission notice in hand, Thanh hesitated whether to go or not. If he dropped out of school, his dream of finding a job and helping his family escape poverty would vanish. If he left, where would he get the money? What about tuition, rent, and daily food? Thanh's mother, Vi Thi Hoanh, sighed, her eyes filled with tears: "Thanh is very studious, he always dreamed of going to university. Knowing that his parents were sick, he went to school hungry for days, but he never missed a single class. Now that he passed the university entrance exam, I am both happy and worried. I am happy because my son's dream has come true, but I am worried because where will I get the money to send him to school?"

Thuong Thanh, the whole family ran back and forth to borrow money from neighbors, for 3 days the total amount was only over 2 million VND. "Well, we'll just take whatever we have, what else can we do now?" - Thanh's father, Mr. Mac Van Vinh sadly said.

"I am still determined to study. After completing the admission procedures and finding a place to stay, I will find a job. I will study and work to earn money for my education." Thanh tried to hold back her tears because she missed her parents.

Mac Van Thanh has gone to school, but who knows what his future will be like? Will his dream of becoming an agricultural engineer to return home and help his family escape poverty be realized, when Thanh's family is so poor?
