The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the first 10 months of 2013, the estimated volume of rubber exports reached 832,000 tons, earning 1.96 billion USD. Thus, rubber exports increased by 2% in volume but decreased by 15.1% in value compared to the same period in 2012.

In the first 10 months of 2013, rubber exports decreased by 15.1%.

In addition to the difficulties in the consumer market in late September and early October 2013, the consecutive natural disasters in the Central coastal region were also causes of difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of the industry's production and business plans.

By the end of September 2013, Vietnam Rubber Industry Group (VRG) had exploited more than 162,000 tons, reaching 62% of the yearly plan; consumed nearly 200,000 tons of rubber of all kinds, down nearly 15,000 tons compared to last year and revenue reached more than 17 trillion VND, reaching 70% of the yearly plan.

China continues to be the largest rubber import market of Vietnam (accounting for 43% of total export value), but has a sharp downward trend compared to 2012 (down 7.3% in volume and nearly 22% in value). The second largest import market is Malaysia, accounting for more than 21% of total export value, but in this market, Vietnamese rubber also decreased by 6.7% in value compared to the same period last year.

VRG concluded that the average rubber selling price in 2013 was only 53.8 million VND/ton, a decrease of 11.2 million VND/ton compared to the same period in 2012. In order to achieve the target of rubber output in 2013 of 265,000 tons with total revenue of 24,500 billion VND, VRG is focusing on a number of key solutions, including promoting trade promotion, exploiting and expanding new markets, especially increasing sales to direct production units in and outside the country.

Particularly for the Central region, it is necessary to review new planting and replanting locations in the near future, and not plant rubber in areas near the coast. In some areas near the sea, there is a policy of replanting. There must be an appropriate process and it must be approved by VRG before implementation.
