Although he had a previous conviction for theft that had not been expunged, Tinh returned to his old ways. Tinh confessed that because he had just been released from prison and had no job, in November 2017, Tinh left his hometown in Ha Tinh to go to Phu Quoc to find a living.

Knowing that recently in Phu Quoc there was a land fever and local people were selling land for a lot of money, Tinh had the idea of ​​stealing to spend money.

Using the trick of pretending to be a land buyer, Tinh went to households in Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc district to investigate. If there were people at a house, Tinh pretended to ask them to buy the land to get it over with and then left. On the contrary, if there was no one guarding the house, he broke in to steal property.

Using this trick, on May 5, Tinh entered a household in Da Chong hamlet, Bai Thom commune and stole over 860 million VND, nearly 3.5 taels of 18K and 24K gold, but was later discovered and arrested by Phu Quoc police.

In addition, Tinh confessed that he had previously successfully carried out two thefts using similar methods, appropriating over 100 million VND./.
