Electricity prices increase by 5% from August 1

From August 1, the average electricity price is 1,508.85 VND/kWh (excluding value added tax), an increase of 71.85 VND/kWh (5%) compared to the current average electricity price (1,437 VND/kWh).

In particular, the coal price from April 20, 2013 increased from 37-41% depending on the type of coal.

This electricity price adjustment does not change the subjects of price application or the price structure, but only adjusts the price for the subjects. The price of household electricity in steps from 0 to 50 kWh applied to poor and low-income households remains unchanged.



From tomorrow (August 1), electricity prices will be adjusted to increase by more than 71 VND/kWh, equivalent to a 5% increase.

Specifically, poor and low-income households using up to 50 kWh/month for household electricity will not increase their expenses. Households using 100 kWh/month for household electricity will increase their expenses by 6,800 VND/month, those using 150 kWh/month will increase their expenses by 10,650 VND/month, those using 200 kWh/month will increase their expenses by 15,500 VND/month, those using 300 kWh/month will increase their expenses by 26,000 VND/month, and those using 400 kWh/month will increase their expenses by 37,200 VND/month.


Previously, in the regular Government press conference, Minister and Head of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam also said that electricity prices will certainly increase. Mr. Dam cited 3 reasons why electricity prices need to increase, which are the consistent policy of the State, to keep electricity prices according to the market; low electricity prices do not call for investment in the electricity industry, while it is impossible to continue using the budget for investment and the price of coal sold toelectricitybelow cost leading to coal smuggling.
