Family and friends bid farewell to musician Nguyen Trong Tao

More than a year before his death, the musician suffered a stroke. Last April, he was also diagnosed with lung cancer. Although he was mentally prepared, his family was still shocked.

During his lifetime, the musician had three children. The eldest daughter was married and lived in the building next to her father, so she often visited him before he passed away. The second son (in the photo) graduated with a PhD in Architecture in Italy and worked in Hue. The youngest daughter studied for a PhD in Economics in Italy. All three considered their father an idol but did not follow in his footsteps because they were afraid that "the children would not be as good as their father".

Literary critic Pham Xuan Nguyen at his friend's coffin. He said that at the end of his life, the musician was saddened by his illness. Encouraged by his friends, Nguyen Trong Tao regained his optimism.

Nguyen Trong Tao has both of those personalities."

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung expressed his condolences to the musician's family. "Thank you for leaving behind beautiful works, especially poems and songs that touched the hearts of many people, including me, and awakened many bitter and sweet memories, love, joy and sadness, and good things," the Deputy Prime Minister wrote in the condolence book.

Relatives and friends walked around the coffin before the musician was cremated at the Universe Crematorium. The musician's ashes will be returned to his hometown in Nghe An after the family completes the memorial.

At the funeral, writer Nguyen Tri Huan, on behalf of the Vietnam Writers Association, read the eulogy. He expressed that although Nguyen Trong Tao has passed away, his poems and songs will live forever.

Nguyen Trong Tao was born in 1947 in Dien Chau district, Nghe An. He is a poet, painter, and journalist. Nguyen Trong Tao was the Chief Editor of the Poetry newspaper of the Literature and Arts newspaper of the Vietnam Writers Association from 2003 to 2004. He is the author of folk songs such asMy hometown's quan ho village, The ferry's eyes, Love song by a river, Cao Bang mountains and rivers, My mother... He also wrote many poems and epic poems such asNursery rhymes for adults, Refuge, The world without moon, The path of the stars (Dong Loc epic).
