Pilot Nguyen Huu Cuong's family thought of the worst.
(Baonghean.vn) - In his hometown of Bac Giang, relatives of SU30 pilot Nguyen Huu Cuong have thought of the worst case scenario; have prepared an altar and a memorial service.
We arrived at Nghia Ho commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province at noon on June 15. The sun was hot. It was lychee season. The red colour of lychee was all over the hillsides of Luc Ngan. Food trucks were more crowded on the road, making it difficult for traffic to move quickly. On the way, we heard the news that Major pilot Nguyen Huu Cuong, who was killed in the SU30 plane crash on June 14, 2016, had been found. We were extremely anxious, wanting to quickly arrive at the home of Mr. Nguyen Huu Ngo, Cuong's father, to share this joy.

Relatives came to visit and encourage Mr. Ngo's family. |
Mr. Huu added that the family had prepared for the worst. Now that we have heard that Mr. Cuong is still alive, the whole family and the whole neighborhood are happy. Now everyone has come to congratulate the family.
Talking to us in a level 4 house in the middle of a shady green garden, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Huu Ngo, Nguyen Thi Bich Dai - Major Cuong's parents were both filled with joy and still in a state of shock. During the conversation, tears rolled down his emaciated cheeks many times after two sleepless days and nights.
He said: A few days ago, lightning struck and burned down all the radios and electrical appliances in the house, then the incense burner suddenly caught fire. Yesterday morning, when I heard the news that my son had an accident, I felt like I had fallen into an abyss. I thought I would never see him again... He cried. All day yesterday and today, all the family's communications were constantly updated with the search and rescue situation of the units and local people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh - where the plane crashed.
Relatives updated news about pilot Nguyen Huu Cuong via phone. |
We were informed by Nghe An electronic newspaper that Major Cuong had been safely welcomed back to the mainland. Everyone gathered around their phones to watch. The joy was now truly overwhelming.
Mr. Ngo said: My son was on duty and sacrificed for the country. I feel sorry for him but I have no regrets. Now I can welcome him back. What a blessing! But I also feel sad to share with my son's comrade's family. I also believe that my son's comrade will be as lucky as Cuong.
Ms. Hang, the younger sister of Ms. Dai and Mr. Ngo's wife, said: Until this morning, my sisters and I had prepared an altar for our child at home. When we received news of Yen, Cuong's wife called to say she had found her child. There was nothing more joyful than that. We were so happy that we cried together forever.
Indeed, only by going through moments like what Mr. Ngo’s family had to endure, can we fully appreciate the happiness of the reunion; as well as the affection that the army and people of the whole country shared and devoted to the family. Saying goodbye to him, we saw him as if he were young again as he stood at the gate waving goodbye. Suddenly, we also felt happy, because we were able to live with the joy of the family.
