Pig prices drop, Nghe An farmers cautiously do not sell
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, the price of live pigs in Nghe An has decreased compared to early February. Along with the outbreak of African swine fever in some provinces in the country, many farms and ranches are forced to "close their doors and locks", limiting strangers and traders from entering the barns.
These days, Mr. Nguyen Huu Duong in Hamlet 3, Nam Anh Commune (Nam Dan) is busy cleaning the barn and taking care of his pigs. Although the pigs are ready to be sold, when traders come to buy them, he is not very interested.

Mr. Duong shared: The price of live pigs during and after Tet fluctuated from 50,000 - 52,000 VND/kg, now it is only 44,000 - 45,000 VND/kg. If I sell a large quantity during this time, I will not make a profit. Therefore, I am keeping the entire herd, waiting for the market to improve before thinking about selling.
This is also the common sentiment of many farm owners in Nam Anh commune. Most farmers do not want to sell pigs at this time due to low prices. Farms are currently focusing on caring for and preventing African swine fever, keeping the herd intact so that when the price of live pigs increases, they can sell them.
According to Mr. Tran Van Nam - an agricultural officer of Nam Anh commune: the commune has more than 100 farms and households with a total herd of more than 12,000 pigs, so when the price drops, people do not want to sell. Currently, African swine fever has appeared in some provinces, so the locality has also tightened the buying, selling, and transporting of pigs out of the area.

In other localities, the price of live pigs is also falling. According to some pig farms in Thanh Chuong district, the price of live pigs in the first days of March was only 42,000 - 43,000 VND/kg, down nearly 10 prices compared to the beginning of February.
In Dien Chau district, currently, the price of live pigs has increased slightly (46,000 VND/kg) but buying and selling is still difficult.

"Currently, provinces are tightening pig management, so transportation takes a lot of time and procedures. Therefore, many traders are waiting for the pig market to improve before returning to work," added Mr. Le Van Quang.
