In general, the live pig market today has mixed adjustments between regions, with live pig prices in the three regions fluctuating between 60,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.

From January 1, 2025, the new Law on Animal Husbandry will officially take effect, leading to the possible shutdown of tens of thousands of livestock farms across the country. At the same time, industrial pig farming enterprises will have a great opportunity to gain market share. However, this competition is only for enterprises that are well prepared.

The 2018 Law on Animal Husbandry provides stricter regulations on animal husbandry conditions, disease management, environmental protection, etc. and requires animal husbandry facilities to comply with regulations such as distance from residential areas, animal husbandry density, animal feed control, etc.

As a result, the pig farming industry will witness a wave of "relocation" when tens of thousands of facilities have to leave residential areas or stop operating. Since the beginning of 2024, some provinces have begun to carry out drastic relocation. For example, Dong Nai province has relocated about 3,000 farms, of which nearly 1,600 facilities have completed the relocation as of July 2024. Hanoi also has about 2,600 livestock farming households that are subject to relocation, according to a report by the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

However, completing the relocation is not simple. Issues such as land funds and relocation procedures are still entangled, while new land sources are almost exhausted. This puts many farmers at risk of ceasing operations when there are only nearly 2 months left before the Law officially takes effect.

On the other hand, the reduction in supply due to natural disasters, epidemics and the withdrawal of small-scale farms opens up opportunities for the development of the industrial pig farming industry. Livestock enterprises are actively competing for market share, but only those enterprises that are well prepared can succeed.

This preparation includes owning a large herd, a closed farming model, standard barns and especially technology that meets new standards. Some prominent businesses in this field include Dabaco, Greenfeed (GREENFEED Vietnam JSC) and BAF.
