Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, has proposed a plan to overcome livestock losses and improve food supply.
Farmers are advised to convert their herds born in August and September, totaling about 100,000 pigs, to commercial farming. This is expected to increase pork supply by 10,000 to 12,000 tons, serving the Lunar New Year.
To increase poultry production, the Department proposes to increase hatching capacity and incubate an additional 5 to 10 million standard poultry eggs in September, October and November. This could provide an additional 2.5 to 8 million poultry breeds, increasing the supply by about 10,000 to 16,000 tons of poultry.
Regarding cattle breeding, the Department recommends maintaining the current herd size and focusing on care and feeding to continue producing high-quality breeds and increasing the supply of cattle meat to the market.
