In the past 9 months, rice exports have grown strongly, reaching an increase of 131.2% and becoming one of Vietnam's major export items, accounting for 9.8% of total export turnover, ranking 3rd after phones and components (accounting for 8.5%). This shows that Malaysia has increased rice imports from Vietnam, surpassing even high-end consumer goods such as phones.
Besides rice, other agricultural products such as coffee also had impressive growth, reaching 117.5% compared to the same period last year. However, the majority of exported coffee is green coffee, used as raw materials for Malaysia's coffee industry, not reflecting the development of Vietnamese coffee brands in this market.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Vietnam, a recent technical consultation meeting prepared for the project "Reducing risks between humans and animals" through disease control and biosecurity initiatives.
Ha Tinh and Ba Ria – Vung Tau are the two provinces selected to pilot this project. At the meeting, delegates discussed the pig farming value chain, including issues related to stakeholders, linkages, product flows, animal movement, and potential disease risks. Effective prevention and control strategies will be proposed based on this analysis.
