Rice price today December 4, 2024: Both paddy and rice prices increased by 50 - 400 VND/kg. In the export market, Vietnam's rice export price today remained the same as yesterday.

Domestic rice prices

According to an update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 504 raw rice today increased by 50 VND/kg, fluctuating between 10,250 - 10,350 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of IR 504 finished rice also increased by 100 VND/kg, fluctuating between 12,400 - 12,500 VND/kg.

In localities, the supply of rice is more, but good rice is less, leading to higher prices. Rice warehouses also tend to slightly reduce the purchase price for bad rice. Specifically, in Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the supply of rice is more, but good rice is less, warehouses tend to further reduce the price when buying small quantities. In Lap Vo, the price of rice has decreased slightly, the supply of rice is uneven and the quality is varied.

At Sa Dec market canal, transactions are stable with a small amount of rice. Good quality fragrant rice keeps its price high. At An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), the supply of rice is low, bad quality rice is abundant, rice warehouses are slow to buy, but good quality rice still has a high price.

At retail markets, rice prices are stable compared to yesterday. Regular rice prices range from 16,000 to 17,000 VND/kg. Of which, Nang Nhen rice currently has the highest price, up to 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice is priced from 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, Jasmine rice is from 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg, Nang Hoa rice is priced at 21,500 VND/kg, long grain Thai fragrant rice is from 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, Huong Lai rice is 22,000 VND/kg, common white rice is 17,500 VND/kg, Taiwanese fragrant rice is 21,000 VND/kg, regular Soc rice is 18,500 VND/kg, Thai Soc rice is 21,000 VND/kg, and Japanese rice is priced at 22,500 VND/kg.

Nang Hoa 9 rice increased sharply by 400 VND/kg, reaching 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg. Japanese rice costs from 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg, while Dai Thom 8 rice (fresh) fluctuates at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg.

In many localities, farmers are offering more fragrant rice for sale, but transactions are rare, and rice prices fluctuate. In An Giang, there is a large supply of rice in the fields, while the remaining rice in some districts is sown late. Rice prices fluctuate little, but traders pay quite low prices. In Bac Lieu, farmers are also offering more fragrant rice for sale, but transactions are rare. In Long An, demand for rice has decreased, traders pay low prices, causing transactions to be slow and few buyers.

The current price of by-products ranges from 5,800 - 9,300 VND/kg. Specifically, the price of fragrant rice bran is currently trading at 9,200 - 9,300 VND/kg, while the price of bran ranges from 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg.

The glutinous rice market today is stable compared to December 3. The price of IR 4625 glutinous rice is currently fluctuating from 8,200 - 8,400 VND/kg, while the price of 3-month dried Long An glutinous rice remains at 9,800 - 10,000 VND/kg.

Export rice price

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices today remained unchanged from yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 100% broken rice is currently 410 USD/ton, 5% standard rice is 520 USD/ton, and 25% broken rice is 485 USD/ton.

Exports, one of the main drivers of the Thai economy, posted strong growth in October 2024, up 14.6% year-on-year.

Overall, Thailand's exports are expected to increase by 4.9% year-on-year between January and October 2024. TNSC forecasts that Thailand's export growth in 2025 could reach between 1% and 3%.

On the same day, the Thai Ministry of Commerce announced that the country's rice exports in the period from January to November 2024 reached 9.27 million tons, an increase of 16.6% over the same period last year.

Thailand is currently the world's second-largest rice exporter, behind only India. However, the Thai Commerce Ministry said that the country's rice exports may decline next year, after India lifted restrictions on rice exports.
