At present, domestic pepper prices are still fluctuating slightly every day. On February 5, pepper prices in the domestic market were stable in key localities, trading from 149,000 - 150,200 VND/kg. While on the same day last year (February 5, 2024), pepper prices were only at 80,500 - 83,500 VND/kg.

Domestic pepper prices continuously increased right after Tet, helping local farmers enter the new harvest season with excitement.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, the pepper growing area of the whole country will be about 113,000 hectares, with an estimated output of 190,000 tons. Meanwhile, the highest pepper growing area in the country was in 2017, about 151,900 hectares. It is expected that the pepper growing area may decrease to about 110,000 hectares in the coming time. The main reasons for the decrease are the effects of weather, pests and diseases, and the sharp increase in prices of some other agricultural products such as durian and coffee in recent times.

According to Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, the Vietnamese pepper industry is shifting from increasing acreage to improving quality, promoting deep processing, diversifying products, and diversifying markets to penetrate deeply into the global pepper supply chain.

World pepper prices today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on February 11 (local time) as follows:

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, in 2025, global pepper output is forecast to continue to decrease while stable consumption demand is the driving force for Vietnam's pepper exports this year.

According to the General Department of Customs (Ministry of Finance), in the first half of January 2025, Vietnam exported 7,313 tons of pepper with a total turnover of 48.3 million USD, down 3% in volume but up 61.86% in value over the same period in 2024.

Commenting on the export market, Mr. Ho Tri Nhuan - Director of Gohan Company Limited said that in 2025, pepper export will have many advantages, the decrease in output in some places will help pepper prices continue to remain high.

However, depending on the purchasing pace of important markets such as the United States and China, the price range may increase sharply or only about 10-15% compared to present. Therefore, businesses need to closely monitor market developments and purchasing movements from partners to have appropriate purchasing, storage, and cash flow plans, both increasing output and export turnover and ensuring business efficiency.
