According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam's agricultural sector accounts for about 30% of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions.

In Dak Nong province, agricultural cultivation, especially pepper cultivation, is both heavily affected by climate change and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, increasing global warming.

To develop pepper sustainably and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the provincial agricultural sector has encouraged farmers to apply technical measures such as scientific pepper garden management, balanced nutrition, reasonable fertilization, using compost from agricultural by-products to improve soil quality, and changing the method of fertilization from spreading to landfilling to reduce loss and emissions.

Organic and biosafety farming models are helping many perennial pepper gardens in Dak Nong maintain high productivity and good quality.

Pepper is currently one of the four key agricultural products of Dak Nong province, second only to coffee in terms of planting area, bringing high economic value and playing an important role in the local crop structure.

However, to improve productivity, limit pests and meet quality standards, farmers need to continue to innovate farming methods and invest in the right direction.

World pepper price today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,470 USD/ton (down 0.09%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,055 USD/ton (down 0.09%).

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at $6,000/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at $8,400/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached $10,500/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today decreased slightly, trading at 6,200 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,500 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 9,400 USD/ton.

Early this morning, pepper prices recorded an increase of 500 - 1,000 VND/kg compared to the same time yesterday. Since the beginning of the week, the market has been erratic, with pepper prices fluctuating slightly in the context of cash flow shifting to coffee trading. At the same time, the recent sharp increase in the USD has also negatively affected pepper prices in the international market.

However, according to assessments, Vietnamese pepper still retains some of its own advantages, even though the market is under a lot of pressure.

In recent times, unfavorable weather has caused many difficulties for pepper farmers. Many localities have reported that many pepper flowers have fallen off, leading to low fruit set rates and a high risk of crop failure.

This year, hot and dry weather, low humidity and late rains have not created favorable conditions for pepper plants to flower. Pepper is a plant sensitive to weather conditions, so crop failures often occur.

Pepper prices are currently high, but with reduced production, many farmers are concerned that profits could plummet. This situation poses a major challenge for the pepper industry in ensuring sustainable production and adapting to climate change.
