Pepper prices are currently higher than in previous years and are expected to continue to be supported in the coming time. This has encouraged farmers in many regions of the country to replant pepper, a crop once known as “black gold”. Some farmers have decided to invest in new plantings or expand pepper growing areas, especially in provinces with favorable conditions for growing this crop.

Binh Phuoc, a province famous for its agriculture, is witnessing a strong development in organic pepper farming, with many farming households converting and receiving positive results. Although the pepper growing area in Binh Phuoc has decreased to about 12,450 hectares due to many factors such as low prices, diseases, and conversion to other crops, many families still persevere in taking care of their pepper gardens using organic methods.

Since the beginning of 2024, pepper prices have increased to over 100,000 VND/kg, bringing joy and motivation to pepper farmers. The transition to organic farming not only increases benefits for growers but also for consumers, opening a new direction for sustainable agriculture and stabilizing income for pepper growers.

Global economic instability has reduced the demand for pepper. Due to inflation and recession, consumers reduce spending on unnecessary products, including pepper.

Climate change, such as El Nino, has affected pepper planting and maintenance. La Nina also affects farmers’ decisions to plant pepper, especially when durian and coffee prices are high.

Pepper exports to China have decreased due to their large imports from Indonesia, affecting the pepper industry in Vietnam. The domestic pepper market has been unstable recently, with prices falling continuously, but some areas have begun to see prices increase again.
