Although the harvest season is now more than halfway through, many farmers have yet to sell their pepper, hoping that prices will increase in the coming time. Forecasts for this year’s output vary, but the reality is that output is declining due to the shrinking harvest area and prolonged adverse weather.

Slow harvests, combined with farmers' hoarding mentality, have forced pepper processing enterprises to increase imports to meet domestic market demand.

According to data from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, in the first half of March 2025, Vietnam imported 1,731 tons of pepper, reaching a turnover of 10.3 million USD. The main supply came from Brazil and Indonesia, of which Brazil accounted for nearly 70% of the import volume.

Currently, there are about 200 enterprises operating in the field of pepper processing and export. However, only 15 large enterprises account for 70% of total export output. The country has 14 deep processing factories, of which 5 are foreign-invested enterprises, holding nearly 30% of the export market share.

Pepper price today April 3 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on April 1 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,239 per ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper prices remained stable from yesterday at $10,066 per ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 7,000/ton.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,900/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price was also stable from yesterday at $12,400/ton.

Prices of all types of Vietnamese pepper remained stable compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 7,100 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 7,300 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 10,100/ton.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian pepper industry is facing difficulties as exports to Europe are hampered by strict food safety requirements. This development has put increasing pressure on supply in the international market. In the context of the USD remaining at a high level, pepper prices are likely to remain at a high level if the supply situation does not improve soon.

Faced with this situation, farmers need to focus on improving product quality instead of just focusing on output. Applying sustainable farming techniques not only helps protect crops but also contributes to reducing production costs.

For businesses, the strategy of expanding export markets and diversifying partners is a key factor to stabilize output and increase competitiveness.

If major producing countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil do not recover production soon, global pepper prices may continue to remain high in the coming time.
