Pepper prices have increased significantly this year, from VND87,000/kg to VND150,000/kg, bringing high profits to farmers. The increase in pepper prices has increased Vietnam's export value compared to last year, but exporting enterprises have had difficulty purchasing the desired quantity.

Domestic pepper prices have fluctuated slightly since the beginning of the week, and due to limited available supply, the market is currently quiet. It is expected that the Vietnamese pepper industry will continue to benefit from high export prices due to scarce supply. Currently, the amount of available pepper is very small, mainly in the warehouses of agents and businesses.

Stocks from 2023, together with estimated 2024 imports of around 40,000-45,000 tonnes, signal that exports will be lower by the end of the year than in previous years and will continue until March 2025, when the 2025 crop begins to be harvested.

World pepper price today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,826 USD/ton (down 0.95%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,216 USD/ton (down 0.95%).

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at USD 6,850/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at USD 8,900/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 11,400/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today are stable at a high level, trading at 6,800 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 7,100 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 10,150 USD/ton.

Recently, the price of Vietnamese pepper in the international market has been stable, not changing much. In contrast, the price of pepper from Indonesia and Brazil has fluctuated unstably.

Indonesia, Vietnam's competitor, has a large supply from the new crop, causing pepper prices to fall in the international market. Brazil and Indonesia are in the harvest season, but global demand is not increasing, and China has reduced pepper imports, leading to a downward trend in prices.

As of August 24, Indonesia's pepper exports were up 67% year-on-year, and output in 2024 is expected to reach 85,000 tons, up 5% year-on-year. Farmers in Lampung Province, Indonesia, have almost completed harvesting. Stockpiles of major investors have decreased, but demand from China and Europe is expected to increase at the end of the year, which could push global pepper prices up in the short term.
