Giá tiêu hôm nay 5/3/2025: Tăng tới 70% trong 1 năm

Since the beginning of 2025, domestic pepper prices have increased sharply, with an increase of 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg. In February alone, prices increased by 10,000 - 11,000 VND/kg, bringing the current price to around 157,000 - 159,000 VND/kg. Compared to the same period last year, domestic pepper prices have increased by 65 - 70%.

The sharp increase in pepper prices is mainly due to the significant reduction in pepper growing areas over the past decade as many farmers have switched to growing other crops such as coffee and durian. Meanwhile, consumption demand in the European and American markets is increasing.

The increase in pepper prices has helped people earn more income and regain confidence in the crop once known as the 'black gold' of the Central Highlands. For sustainable development, Gia Lai plans to maintain the pepper area at 8,500 - 10,000 hectares, focusing on building large production areas associated with processing and export.

World pepper price today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on March 5 (local time) as follows:

The price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper continued to increase compared to yesterday, reaching 7,328 USD/ton (up 0.38%). In addition, the price of Muntok white pepper also increased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching 10,175 USD/ton (up 0.38%).

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,900 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 7,100 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,900/ton.

2025 is considered a breakthrough opportunity for the Vietnamese pepper industry with positive export prospects. According to the General Department of Customs, in January 2025, black pepper accounted for 58.9% of total exports, followed by ground black pepper with 19.9%.

The US remains the largest consumer market, with more than 77% of Vietnam's pepper exports going to this market. In the international market, Indonesian pepper prices decreased slightly, Malaysian pepper remained stable, while Brazilian black pepper and Vietnamese pepper exports increased by 3.66 - 6.15%.

Although the increase in pepper prices brings great benefits to farmers, experts advise farmers not to expand their acreage massively but to focus on improving product quality. The pepper market is cyclical, so the current high prices may not be sustainable if production is not sustainable. Farmers need to apply organic farming, control diseases and cooperate with businesses to ensure stable output.
