Although domestic pepper prices have decreased, the export market has recorded significant growth. According to Mr. Ho Tri Nhuan, Director of Gohan Company Limited, consumption demand in the US in 2024 will increase by about 5%. However, purchases from importers have increased sharply by 30-40% due to concerns that prices will continue to rise. This makes it difficult for many export enterprises to sign long-term contracts at lower prices than actual prices, leading to the risk of losses if pepper prices increase suddenly.
It is forecasted that in the second quarter of 2025, China may increase its purchase of pepper from Vietnam when the main harvest season begins. Meanwhile, the US may adjust its import pace due to large inventories from last year. If actual demand from China increases sharply, domestic pepper prices are likely to recover quickly and end the current downward trend.
Although the market is still in the adjustment phase, pepper export prices are on an upward trend, bringing hope to farmers. However, the stockpiling strategy needs to be carefully calculated to avoid risks in the face of unpredictable fluctuations in the global market.

According to Thehindubusinessline, the pepper market in northern India is showing signs of sluggishness. Many consumption centers have recorded sluggish trading activities in recent times. However, traders expect demand to recover after the Maha Kumbh Mela festival.
Pepper prices at the Kochi wholesale market have fallen by Rs 7 per kg in the last week. Currently, ungraded pepper is being traded at Rs 652 per kg, while graded pepper is being traded at Rs 672 per kg.
The market is stabilizing after the first round of pepper harvesting ended, leading to lower supplies in the growing areas, said Kishore Shamji, a trader in Kochi.
Additionally, early harvest by farmers in Idukki and Pathanamthitta to cater to the demand at Sabarimala has also affected supply. The pilgrimage season has brought in a significant income for them, with many farmers selling half a kilogram of black pepper at Rs 650 to pilgrims.
