The value of independence and freedom

The greatest and most significant achievement that the August Revolution of 1945 brought about was national independence, the foundation of freedom, prosperity and happiness for every human being.

Through thousands of years of history, with many ups and downs, prosperity and decline, with thousands of years of Northern feudal domination, with nearly 100 years of Western colonial and imperialist invasion, the aspiration for national independence burns endlessly in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

The aspiration for national independence and people's freedom is an eternal aspiration. Every time the nation is threatened with invasion, every time the country is invaded by foreign powers, that aspiration burns even more intensely.

Only since the French colonialists invaded our country and enslaved our people, countless movements, political struggles, and armed struggles to expel the French colonialists have broken out. For the sake of national independence, our people are not afraid of bloodshed, generation after generation, following in their footsteps.

Not willing to be slaves, not willing to lose their country and homes, tens of thousands of Vietnamese people know they can sacrifice, but still do not falter, because ahead is national independence, the sacredness of the Fatherland, the integrity of the country's territory and freedom for every person.

The desire for independence and freedom, more than anyone else, every Vietnamese person desires peace. Taking up arms to defend themselves, to fight back, to drive out the enemy is just a last resort. Fighting for self-defense to protect independence, freedom and territorial integrity is also because of the desire for peace, wanting a peaceful environment to have enough food and warm clothes, and to build happiness.

President Ho Chi Minh represents the Vietnamese people, the embodiment of the aspiration for national independence, a free country, and happy people: "I have only one desire, an utmost desire, which is to make our country completely independent, our people completely free, everyone has food to eat, clothes to wear, and everyone can go to school."

In the extremely difficult situation of the period before the August 1945 uprising, he predicted: "Even if we have to burn down the entire Truong Son mountain range, we must gain national independence."

On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, declaring: “Vietnam has the right to freedom and independence, and in fact has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to devote all their spirit and strength, their lives and property to maintaining that freedom and independence.”

That is also the will and aspiration of the entire Vietnamese people, from thousands of years ago, today and tomorrow...

Winning national independence is for the people and by the people. It is also the people who use their blood, sweat and intelligence to protect national independence and freedom.
Remembering the last days of 1946, the French colonialists returned to provoke, intending to invade our country once again, President Ho Chi Minh issued an appeal: "The time to save the country has come. We must sacrifice every last drop of blood to preserve the country... We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country, than become slaves!"

The whole nation entered a 9-year long resistance war with many sacrifices of blood and bones, creating a Dien Bien Phu battle that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the earth" and put an end to the nearly 100-year invasion of French colonialism.

Looking back, during the days when the Fatherland entered the fierce and arduous war against the invading American imperialists, President Ho Chi Minh once again affirmed the truth: Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom... The entire Vietnamese people united as one, fought and sacrificed to create the "Dien Bien Phu in the air battle" in December 1972 and the great victory in the spring of 1975!

The value of independence and freedom is truly noble and sacred because it was exchanged for blood, sweat, and intelligence of many generations of Vietnamese people, of close friends near and far...

Responding to all changes with constancy… The great lesson of national unity from the August Revolution of 1945 adds wisdom and strength to our nation on every journey past, today and the journey ahead.

From historical facts from thousands of years ago, President Ho Chi Minh contemplated: “Our history teaches us this lesson: Whenever our people unite as one, our country is independent and free. On the contrary, whenever our people are not united, we are invaded by foreign countries.”

Unite all people to make the country rich, the society strong, democratic, fair and civilized.

Unite all people as one so that the renovation process can quickly succeed, to maintain independence, unity, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
If we unite as one, we will not fear any enemy's aggression or invasion!./.
