Old Tuyen in Pom Om
(Baonghean) -When mentioning village elder Ha Van Tuyen in Pom Om village, Hanh Dich commune (Que Phong), everyone here knows. For decades, Elder Tuyen has not only diagnosed and saved people but also set a shining example for his children and grandchildren to follow.
This year, old Tuyen has reached the age of 80, but his legs can still walk over many hills, his voice is still as hearty as a bird singing in the forest. When we went to Pom Om to meet him, old Tuyen was busy examining and prescribing medicine for several villagers who had malaria. In the ancient stilt house of the Thai people, old Tuyen confided: "I was passed down the profession by my ancestors, now I have to treat my fellow villagers. As long as I have the strength, I still have to help my fellow villagers a lot". Because of his affection for the people, for decades, old Tuyen has always been willing to go to remote villages in Hanh Dich to visit sick people. He has also acted as a representative for the elderly in the area to mobilize families to eliminate bad customs, promote civilized lifestyles and preserve the ancient cultural features of the Thai people.

For many years, he and the members of the association have collected and preserved many effective traditional medicine recipes. Currently, the entire Hanh Dich Commune has planted and protected over 10 hectares of rare traditional medicine plants.
Pom Om village chief Vi Van Hoai said: "Our villagers are very grateful to old man Tuyen. Thanks to him, our villagers no longer believe in the words of shamans when they get sick.
Thanks to setting a good example and teaching his children and grandchildren to study, in the old man Tuyen's family, there are currently 15 grandchildren with university, college and intermediate degrees. Many of them now hold key positions in Hanh Dich commune. The family of village elder Ha Van Tuyen in Pom Om has been recognized as a "Cultural Family" for many years.
