Oil prices are on track for their first weekly decline after three straight weeks of gains, driven by expectations of rising global oil supplies and a surprise rise in US crude inventories that has raised concerns about future demand.

According to Reuters, eight members of the OPEC+ organization are considering the possibility of increasing oil production at a meeting on Sunday. Meanwhile, data from the US showed that the country's crude oil reserves increased by 2.4 million barrels last week, completely contrary to analysts' forecasts of a decrease.

John Evans, an oil broker at PVM, said the market was showing increasing signs that future supply would no longer be a concern.

Expectations are growing that OPEC+ will release more oil to regain market share at the upcoming meeting. If that happens, OPEC+ will soon lift another layer of production cuts of about 1.65 million barrels per day, equivalent to 1.6% of world demand, more than a year earlier than originally planned.

The strength of the refining industry remains a key factor supporting prices, but refining margins are likely to narrow in the coming months as global demand weakens and refineries ramp up maintenance, according to BMI analysts.

Supply risks continue to support the market, however. A White House official said U.S. President Donald Trump has asked European leaders to stop buying oil from Russia. Any disruption to oil supplies from Russia or other sources could send global oil prices higher again.
