Rescue of 11 sailors whose ship sank in the Hoang Sa waters

During the rescue process, the maritime search and rescue team encountered 2 Chinese military ships and 1 helicopter circling.

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center is rescuing 11 crew members on two Binh Dinh province ships that sank in Vietnam's Hoang Sa waters.

At 4:00 a.m. on February 10, the ship with registration number BD 95427 TS owned by Mr. Tran Kim Chung sank in the Hoang Sa waters of Vietnam, leaving 5 crew members adrift on a basket boat.

Receiving timely information about complicated weather conditions, to ensure the safety of the crew members in distress, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Force immediately used SAR 412 to respond.

At nearly 6:00 a.m. on February 11, 5 crew members were rescued who were in a state of fatigue and poor health due to struggling with strong winds and waves. While taking care of the health and encouraging the spirit of these 5 crew members, the maritime search and rescue force continued the journey to rescue 6 crew members of another ship with a broken shaft, drifting onto a reef, and at risk of sinking. That was the ship BD 95569 TS, owned and captained by Mr. Tran Van Quoc, which was in distress at a location more than 220 nautical miles east of Da Nang.

At nearly 9:00 a.m. on February 11, the maritime search and rescue team approached the ship in the area of ​​Chim Yen submerged island (located in the center of Hoang Sa archipelago).

During the rescue process, the maritime search and rescue force encountered 2 Chinese military ships and 1 Chinese helicopter hovering around the area where our ship was performing its mission. However, with the spirit of determination to stick to the sea and islands, affirming the responsibility to fishermen at sea and the sacred and undeniable sovereignty of Vietnam over the Hoang Sa archipelago, the Vietnamese maritime search and rescue force rescued all 11 crew members on the 2 Binh Dinh ships.

It is expected that by 9:00 p.m. on February 11, all 11 crew members of the two ships in distress will be brought to the shore of Da Nang by the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Force.
