Promote dialogue, build trust
With the theme "Enhancing dialogue, trust and coordinated action for a peaceful, stable and cooperative Asia", delegates agreed on the need to build a peaceful and stable environment favorable for common development, strengthen measures to build trust in the region; uphold the norms and principles of international law, the United Nations Charter; and peacefully resolve territorial disputes at sea. Agreeing with the viewpoint put forward by CICA, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on Asian countries to resolve disagreements through dialogue and cooperation on the basis of the common interests of the entire continent and the world.
Speaking at the conference, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan called on Asian countries to jointly promote dialogue, build trust and cooperate to realize the common aspirations of the Asian people for peace, stability and development. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan emphasized that the Declaration of the CICA Summit clearly stated that, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law, countries affirmed to respect each other's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, refrain from threatening or using force in international relations, and resolve disputes by peaceful means. On that basis, Vietnam hopes that current disagreements and disputes in the region will be resolved in the above spirit. Regarding the East Sea issue, the Vice President affirmed Vietnam's goodwill to promote the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

With the theme: "Asia Takes Off - Message for the Next 20 Years", the speakers focused on discussing the tense situation in East Asia as well as measures to promote Asia's development. Referring to recent tensions in the East Sea and the East China Sea, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed concern that provocative actions and incidents could lead to conflicts, threatening the future of Asia in the next 20 years. Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that economic integration will be an important topic for Asia but economic growth cannot be sustainable without security guarantees. Therefore, disputes over territory and resources, including those in the East Sea, must be resolved through diplomatic measures based on international law, not by military and economic power.
