The first national award for foreign information

On the afternoon of December 8, 2014, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan co-chaired the press conference to announce the 2014 National Award for External Information. The 2014 National Award for External Information was organized by the Central Propaganda Department and the Steering Committee for External Information Work on a national scale.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan said: "In recent times, the work of information technology has made an important contribution to promoting the national image, promoting the country, culture, history and people of Vietnam, contributing to promoting the international integration process and enhancing Vietnam's position in the international arena, fighting against false and distorted information about Vietnam, helping the world have a more correct view and better understanding of Vietnam."

According to Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan, the organization of the Award is extremely necessary and important to recognize and honor authors and groups of authors with outstanding works in the field of foreign information and propaganda. At the same time, it encourages and motivates reporters and editors in foreign press agencies to make more contributions to the country's foreign information and propaganda work.

The organization of this Award also affirms the increasingly important position and role of the work of information technology in the new situation. At the same time, it shows that the Party and State pay great attention to the work of information technology in general and information technology activities in the press in particular.

The 2014 National Award on Information and Communications was organized by the Central Propaganda Department and the Steering Committee for Information and Communications Work on a national scale for the first time in Vietnam to recognize and honor outstanding authors and press works in the field of Information and Communications.

The award is for 4 categories of press including print, radio, television, and electronic newspapers in Vietnamese and foreign languages, serving foreigners or Vietnamese people abroad, printed, published, and distributed by Vietnamese State press agencies or foreign press agencies from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014. The award ceremony will be held on May 19, 2015.

It is expected that this Award will be held annually and expanded to other fields related to foreign information and propaganda activities such as publications, programs, and events related to foreign information and propaganda work....

The Organizing Committee of the annual Award will be established by the Central Propaganda Department. Vietnam's key foreign press and news agencies will take turns being the standing agency of the Award. The standing agency of the 2014 Award is the Vietnam News Agency.

The Ministry of Information and Communications plans to submit to the Government in December 2014 a Decree on Information Technology. This is an important legal document to create a legal basis for authorities at all levels and press agencies to promote Information Technology to meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation.
